"When I saw how he handled the bigger sparring partners, I was very pleased."

Roach said Pacquiao weighs 151 pounds right now, he'll easily make the 147-pound limit for the fight, and he'll walk into the ring at about 150 pounds.

"We have him on a diet with a lot of protein to keep his weight stabilized," Roach said. "He's been about the same weight in camp. We didn't do any weightlifting to make him bigger because I believe speed wins this fight. His body fat is 6% and his weight is really good."

Roach said he expects De La Hoya will weigh about 160 pounds when he walks into the ring, adding, "I think speed wins this fight, not size. It's not an issue at all."

Source: http://boxing.fanhouse.com

The Dingdong-Karylle Breakup: The Whole Story

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 180px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__3XsIhSZEJg/SRm-s_Rf0MI/AAAAAAAAAVg/K-GRqB23mr0/s320/dingdongkarylle.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5267450919294849218" />Look at the fairy-tale romance between Dingdong Dantes and Karylle. For three years, they were such a sweet, handsome pair. One morning, the lovely bubble burst. Just like that.

For several weeks, amidst all the fuss and the buzz, Dingdong and especially Karylle politely refused to confirm what was already very obvious, keeping their joint promise to "tell the truth and nothing but" only to The STAR because Karylle happens to be one of this paper's contributors.

Even Karylle's mom, Zsa Zsa Padilla (who broke up with husband Dr. Modesto Tatlonghari when Karylle was a kid), kept a respectful distance from the persistent rumor.

What busted the beautiful romance predicted to end happily ever after at the altar?

Fingers promptly pointed to Marian Rivera as the "culprit." Dingdong's leading lady in the GMA shows Marimar and Dyesebel and now in the GMA Films romance-drama One True Love, she was a credible "principal suspect" because, just weeks before the Dingdong-Karylle yarn hit the tab headlines (initially reported as a "blind item" in this paper's Funfare column), she broke up with San Sebastian College basketball player Ervic Vejandre, her boyfriend of seven years. Showbiz-watchers put two and two together, and that equals...

Through it all, while Dingdong was parrying persistent personal questions from the media, Karylle was agonizing in silence, taking comfort in the loving arms of family and friends, shedding quiet tears on their shoulders and, being a pious girl, seeking solace from the Great Comforter.

Now ready to move forward (not just "move on"), Karylle is speaking up for the first and probably last time, pouring out the pain in her heart in a tell-all/no-holds-barred Conversation (that sounded more like a confession).

Many people are wondering if it's really a breakup, irrevocable; or only a cooling off.

"A, okay. Kelangan clear."

What's the real score?

"Breakup. Dati kasi, parang ano lang...cool-off lang."

When did you decide to break up?

"The breakup happened end of September. Di ba I was telling you before that we were trying to fix things, ganyan. At the time, we were still going out on dates. Actually, that period was...how should I call it? Basta, at that time, I felt that mas sweet pa nga siya sa akin; walang masyadong pressure. Things were easier. We were just ourselves kasi wala kaming masyadong iniisip."

What caused the breakup? According to Dingdong, it's "conflict of priorities."

"Well, for me there were many reasons that can't be summed up in just one statement. It's hard to trivialize things na, you know, this is the only reason and it's up to the people to figure it out, na bahala na kayong intindihin. Maraming rason kasi, eh. You know, even if we keep on explaining or making kuwento, it's only the two of us who know everything. People won't get the whole story."

You're right. "Conflict of interests" is somewhat broad and vague. Hindi masyadong clear. Very general.

"It involves a lot of different things; it's hard to explain. You know, whatever happened, I just think of the three years that we went steady and the things I learned from it. And the beautiful memories. I have friends who have broken up with their boyfriends and usually in cases like that, you burn the pictures, sinusunog mo ang whatever will remind you of the good times."

Oh, did you do that?

"No. What I did was...I put all our pictures together in one album and kept it in a shelf. Alam mo 'yon...I was treasuring the beautiful memories. I didn't throw the pictures away; hindi ko naman sila pinunit. Otherwise, it would be like I'm throwing away memories. Ayoko naman gawin 'yon. Sayang ang memories. 'Yon na lang ang aalalahanin ko."

Are you really still in denial? (Her friends said that up to now, Karylle is hurting from her parents' breakup, that's why she can't accept the painful reality that the same thing is happening to her.)

"Not naman in denial. If I took time, it's because it's hard to talk if you are not yet ready, baka kung ano pa ang masabi mo. I decided to take the road less traveled. Should I just cry and cry? Iiyak na lang ba ako nang iiyak? I didn't do that. Instead, I went into counseling and I went on a retreat. It did me a lot of good. I'm thankful to the priest who suggested that I do that. It gave me time to think things over. I was finally able to sleep soundly."

Was Dingdong your first boyfriend?

"No. He was not."

How many breakups have you gone through?

"Hmmmm. Three."

Is the one with Dingdong the most painful?

"Siguro naman lahat ng breakup masakit. Pero siempre, with this one the pain is times 10." (Forced laughter). "Times 10 lang, hindi naman one million. Because you know why, we had good times together; ang ganda rin kasi ng pinagsamahan namin. So mahirap...well, hindi naman talagang mahirap... I just really took my time. You know, it's hard to fake things, to tell yourself 'I'm okay, I'm okay' when you know very well that you're not okay. 'Yon ang in denial."

So you were never in denial, were you?

"I was but not for long. There are stages, di ba?"

They say na ang galing mo raw magtago ng pain. You were appearing in S.O.P. and doing West Side Story at the Meralco Theater and you gave the impression that all was right with you and with your world.

"It could be because in spite of everything, marami ring magagandang nangyayari. Kahit paano, you just have to look at the positive. During the retreat, one of the questions was, 'What are you most thankful for? Give me seven.' You know, five of the seven happened just recently, the blessings. One of them is the realization na marami rin pala ang nagmamahal sa akin."

And what are the other four?

"Huwag na lang. Sa akin na lang 'yon."

You were very good in West Side Story (as Maria, the same role played by Natalie Wood in the movie version, with Christian Bautista as Tony, played by Richard Beymer in the movie version).

"It was very successful. It was really my dream to do a musical. Alam mo 'yon, kahit paano nabawasan naman ang lungkot ko. I was getting good reviews. After every performance, big names in the industry were showering me with praises that I never expected in my wildest dream."

Back to the breakup...Was it a mutual decision between you and Dingdong?

"Yes, it was. We reached that decision after a long process..."

That was what Dingdong also said...

"...our schedules didn't jibe. During weekdays, he was busy with tapings and shooting. On weekends naman, when he was free, ako naman ang hindi because I was busy with West Side."

Were your kissing scenes with Christian a factor in the breakup?

"No."

In the same way that Dingdong's kissing scenes with Marian (in Marimar and in Dyesebel) were not? You know, part of the profession lang.

"I look at them that way."

Did you watch Marimar and Dyesebel?

"Oo, actually."

How did you feel when Dingdong was kissing Marian?

"You know, kapag may ganoong eksena, he would ask me kung puede o hindi."

During those trying moments, did you run to your mom for, you know, consolation...moral support?

"My mom has been in the States for weeks now. But I talk to her long-distance every day."

What does she say about the whole thing?

"Ask her na lang. Better na siya na lang ang magsabi."

So you are now moving on?

"I won't say, 'Moving on.' I'd rather say, 'Moving forward' para mas mabilis, mas visual."

Isn't really there any chance of you getting back together again?

"Puede bang huwag ko na lang sagutin 'yan?"

Was Dingdong faithful?

(Laughs wanly) "Basta ang masasabi ko lang diyan...I asked him and he said...teka, ano ba ang sinabi niya? He said he never cheated on me and I trusted him."

And you believed him?

"Well, I trusted him."

Wasn't there really any "third party involved"?

(Laughs some more) "Basta, all I can say is that I asked him and he said, 'None.' Kanino pa ba naman ako magtatanong? So, I trusted him with that answer."

Are you and Dingdong still friends?

"Well, he said na matapos lang ito, gusto daw niya ako maging best friend. Okay lang ba 'yon? I'm just quoting him, huh."

And his confidante?

"I told him, 'Teka muna, kakayanin ba 'yan ng mga girls mo?'"

Wow, girls, huh. Plural!

"That was on a lighter note habang nagbibiruan kami. I just wanted to say that."

And what did he say?

"He said, 'They will just have to accept it'."

One crucial question: Are you and Marian okay?

"You know, this is the truth: I always make it a point to say 'Hi!' to her. When I see her at S.O.P., kahit hindi niya ako makita nilalapitan ko siya and I say 'Hi!' to her."

Does she say "Hi!" back?

"Well, she does. I really make it a point to approach her. Kahit isang daang tao pa ang nakaharang, nakikipagsiksikan ako just to say 'Hi!' to her."

Marian insisted that she has nothing to do with what happened between you and Dingdong.

(Laughs again) "Ewan ko! I don't know. Isang tao lang naman ang dapat kong tanungin at 'yon ang sagot niya. So, 'yon lang 'yon. 'Yung iba pang alam ko, sa ibang tao ko na nalaman."

- Ricky Lo (Philstar News Service, www.philstar.com)

I Love Betty La Fea On Primetime Bida

You can now follow all the episodes of this pinoy version of the popular Colombian telenovela Yo Soy Betty, La Fea. When he realized there was absolutely no movement on De La Hoya’s side, he decided to turn down the fight.”

Schaefer said he was surprised with Pacquiao’s decision. He hoped the details of the negotiations were clearly explained by Pacquiao’s advisors in the Philippines because Pacquiao was set to earn the biggest payday of his career, regardless of the split.

“I don’t think anybody, at least anybody I know, spends in percentages,” Schaefer said. “If you buy something, you don’t ask how much percentage does it cost. You spend in dollars and cents. He could have made, at least, $9 million to $10 million, or about three or four times as much fighting someone else. I guess he’s going to have to do three or four fights to make the same amount of money.”

Schaefer said De La Hoya would be in Southern California on Monday to participate in a charity golf tournament and they would discuss future opponents during his 10-day stay.

De La Hoya, 35, is boxing’s biggest draw and has said he will retire after his next fight.

Pacquiao had moved up to the 135-pound lightweight division in June, taking the WBC title from David Diaz with a ninth-round knockout at Mandalay Bay Events Center. Following the victory, many expected Pacquiao’s next challenger to be popular Englishman Ricky Hatton in the 140-pound division, or 130 pounders Edwin Valero or Humberto Soto.

De La Hoya weighed 150 in his last fight against Steve Forbes, the lightest he has been since taking on Arturo Gatti at 147 pounds in March 2001.

Pacquiao, 29, began his professional career as a 106-pound strawweight. He has been fighting at 130 since 2005. In his last fight, he moved up to the 135-pound lightweight division for the first time, taking the WBC title from David Diaz with a ninth-round knockout at Mandalay Bay Events Center.

Exclusive Interview With Pacquiao's Trainer Freddie Roach On Dela Hoya

Brad Cooney chats with the legendary trainer

Freddie Roach remains steadfast in his beliefs that his champion horse Manny Pacquiao will be victorious in a clash against the legendary Oscar De La Hoya. Roach informs BoxingHerald.com that he believes that this fight is close to becoming a reality, and that in the end, it will be Pacquiao that will have his arm raised in victory. Check out what else Roach had to say in this exclusive interview.

BH – Freddie, thanks for joining BoxingHerald.com.

FR – You're welcome Brad, thanks for having me.

BH – Freddie, I want to talk about this whole Pacquiao vs. De La Hoya fight. Can you give us an update on how the negotiations are going?

FR – Last I heard there is still a debate on what size gloves the fighters will wear. We want eight ounce gloves. Oscar wants to come into the fight at 151 lbs, and we want him at 147 lbs. They are still working on the money; Oscar wants to keep all of it, it seems.

BH – What's Oscar asking for right now?

FR – I heard he wants a 70/30 split.

BH – 70/30? That's crazy.

FR – Bob Arum is in charge of all of that, and he knows what he's up against. He'll do a good job, I am sure.

BH – What is your gut telling you Freddie, do you think this fight is going to happen?

FR – Yep, I believe so. The thing is Oscar has a December 6th date, and I just don't think there is anyone else out there for him to fight. Margarito says he doesn't want to fight another Mexican, so who else is there? Who else has a big enough name for them to get the money that they want to get?

BH – A lot of people are concerned, Manny Pacquiao fans especially, about the size differential. Do you have concerns about how much bigger Oscar is than Manny?

FR – Well, obviously he's bigger, but he's a lot older too. He's past his prime, and the thing is Manny weighed in his last fight at 135 lbs, and he was 146 lbs by fight time. The same will happen in this fight, by fight time Manny will be 146 lbs. If Oscar weighs in at 147 lbs, there will be about a 10 lb weight difference. We have a huge advantage in speed, and power advantage, and we will overwhelm those odds. I will never take a fight that my guy couldn't win. It's not an easy fight by any stretch;p I know it's a tough fight, but when you want to make this kind of money, and fight the best out there, that's what it's all about.

BH – Freddie, if Manny gets knocked out by Oscar De La Hoya because of the big weight difference, do you worry about your reputation with the Pacquiao fans around the world? Do you think this is a real roll of the dice taking De La Hoya?

FR – No not really because I just don't see it happening. I don't see Oscar knocking out Manny, when he couldn't knock out Forbes. If he did knockout Manny we would go back down; we still have the title at 135 lbs. Manny has been knocked out before; he knows how to come back from things like that. Manny has been knocked out by a body shot once, but that will never happen again. Manny is a realist; he knows that there is a winner and a loser. When he lost to Morales the first time, he came back and won the next time.

BH – What happens if Paulie Malignaggi beats Hatton? If that happens, do you see a Pacquiao vs. Malignaggi fight down the road a piece?

FR – The question is, does that fight make sense business wise? If Paulie doesn't automatically get that English backing behind him, it doesn't. There are other fights out there, like Marquez if he beats Casamayor. That might be out next fight win or lose against Oscar. That would be a fight people would want to see as well.

BH – What about Nate Campbell? He beat the crap out of Juan Diaz; he has three belts.

FR – Yeah, Nate Campbell is a dangerous guy out there. He beat Diaz soundly, but if he sticks his chin out like he does sometimes, he'll get knocked out. He is definitely a challenge for anyone at 135 lbs; he's crafty, and he has experience, and he's physical.

BH – If Manny ends up fighting Oscar, and with you having trained Oscar, do you feel it will be Manny's speed that will be his ticket to victory?

FR – It is speed yes, but it's how we use Manny's speed -- we have to use it correctly. It's not as easy as just being faster than De La Hoya. I know Manny will have to fight the perfect fight; I know that. I am not scared of the challenge, and neither is Manny. Manny wants to fight him. If we fight the perfect fight, we can beat this guy. Speed is one of our assets, but it's not just speed. We will have to execute a game plan to perfection, and we already have a game plan figured out. I know how to fight Oscar, and I know that I am a better coach than Mayweather is, so let's see what happens.

BH – A win over De La Hoya in my opinion will set up a monster payday fight for a Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather [Jr.] fight. A pound for pound king fight of the decade. Tell the truth Freddie, is this what you guys are looking at on the Roach radar?

FR – Well, Floyd is not an older guy like Oscar De La Hoya, and maybe hasn't lost a step like Oscar has. If we beat Oscar in good fashion, Floyd could be next. With that said, I still think there is more money in a Pacquiao vs. Hatton fight. I don't think Floyd sells tickets; I am sorry to say that. I like Floyd; he's not like his father or his uncle, he's a respectful guy. That would be a huge fight for everybody, but does it sell tickets? If we can make money with that fight, then yes, but I think Hatton is the way to go. If Paulie wins over Hatton, then Floyd would be a future opponent after we knockout Oscar.

BH – After you guys knockout Oscar? Freddie you got a lot of confidence in that.

FR – I have confidence, I have said this before that at 147 lbs in his prime, Oscar is too big. But he's not in his prime anymore. Manny showed me in his last fight against Diaz that he's capable of fighting the perfect fight, and he'll need to fight like that again to beat Oscar.

BH – In my opinion Manny is in a win, win situation. If he wins against Oscar, obviously it sets up big money to fight Mayweather or Hatton. If he loses, he lost to a legend in De La Hoya, a bigger De La Hoya. His stock doesn't drop at all in my book.

FR – We're not just doing this for money. Manny and I want to beat Oscar; he's a legend. A win over Oscar puts Manny at a whole new level. If he wins he will go down as not only the greatest Asian fighter of all time, but he will go down as a top 10 greatest fighter of all time. It's a calculated risk, and I know Manny can do this. He can pull off a perfect fight, and I know it's a lot harder than fighting Oscar Diaz, but does Oscar really want to put it out there like he did when he was younger? When Oscar fought Steve Forbes, I just didn't see him doing that great. I disagree with those who though Oscar looked good; I think if Forbes was busier he could have won that fight.

BH – My point was even if Manny loses to De La Hoya, his stock isn't damaged.

FR – No, it doesn't damage his stock, but I don't like to talk about losing [laughing], I want to skip that part Brad [laughing]. I know it's a tough fight for Manny, but I know he can win this fight. If we lose, OK, we lose, and maybe we bit off more than we could chew, but I don't think that's going to happen.

BH – OK, so if this fight goes down, when do you want Manny in Los Angeles for camp?

FR – I would like to have him for 10 weeks, but realistically, we'll probably only have him for eight weeks. This fight we will have to work on strategy and get the best sparring partners available. I already have Rashad Holloway; he's perfect for Manny to spar with. We will be having a private training camp that will be closed to EVERYBODY. We will have to be in great shape and execute the perfect game plan.

BH – Freddie thanks for your time. Do you have any closing thoughts for the fans out there?

FR – Have faith in this fight guys, we need all of your support. We appreciate the support that you have given us in the past, and we thank you very much.

Source: BoxingHerald.com

Manny Pacquiao

Who wouldn't admire this great man? If there's one person the Filipino of this generation could truly be proud of, it should be Manny Pacquiao! Imagine even the NBA's most recent champion - the Boston Celtics took time out and reserved 16 tickets to watch his latest fight (which he gloriously won) against David Diaz, and even went straight to his dugout to pose with him for pictures and video. This same fight with Diaz gave our hero his record-breaking fourth major World Title as the current WBC Lightweight Champion. He is also currently the WBC Super Featherweight Champion, and formerly the world champion for the IBF Super Bantamweight and WBC Flyweight divisions, making him the first Filipino and Asian boxer to win four world titles in four weight divisions. On June 9, 2008, he took over as the Ring Magazine pound for pound number 1 ranked boxer in the world after Floyd Mayweather, Jr. announced his retirement from boxing.

Whew! What a feat! Although his involvement in local politics and his association with the present administration somehow tarnished his image and popularity, we cannot discount the fact that Manny Pacquiao is truly an extraordinary Star!

2 RP choir groups harvest awards in Hong Kong fest

This page requires a higher version browser
For the latest Philippine news stories and videos, visit GMANews.TV

Two Filipino choir groups proved their vocal prowess after winning major prizes in a recently concluded choral singing competition in Hong Kong.

The Vox Angeli Children’s Choir and the University of North Eastern Chorale received top awards in the 2008 Hong Kong International Youth and Children’s Choir Festival, QTV’s Balitanghali reported Monday.

Despite being greenhorns in the international competition circuit, the Vox Angeli choir managed to bag the gold in the Children’s choir category while snagging the silver in the Folkloric category.

Vox Angeli fell a few points behind the University of North Eastern Chorale which received the gold award in the Folkloric category.

The North Eastern chorale also won a silver for the Mixed Youth category.

The two groups arrived in Manila on Saturday evening and were greeted with placards and streamers congratulating them for their victories.

The Vox Angeli choir reportedly performed with Hong Kong superstar Jackie Chan in the World Sings for Olympics concert.

Source: GMANews.TV

Madonna Decena

Madonna Decena blows the judges and audience away on Britains Got Talent with a breathtaking performance of this famous Whitney Houston song. Britain's Got Talent. But this 33 year-old from the Philippines lived up to her billing, as she wowed the judges and audience with her powerful performance and heart-felt story. Trembling and a little unsure of herself, Madonna walked onto the stage and told everyone her reason for being there. Six months ago she flew out to Britain in the hope of creating a better life for herself and two young daughters. Agonizingly she had to leave her precious children behind with their grandparents in the Philippines, until she had raised enough money to send for them. Her rendition of I Will Always Love You brought a collective lump to the auditorium's throat. "I know you were singing that song for your babies" said a tearful Amanda. This audition was no Holiday for Madonna, it was potentially life-changing, and when the panel told her she had made it to the next round... it was as if all her dreams had been answered, just Like A Prayer. Nevertheless, she gave a very good performance – a rendition of the song “The Greatest Love of All”.
